About the Book

BECOMING MRS. LEWIS—The Improbable Love Story of Joy Davidman and C.S. Lewis is Patti's first work of historical fiction, published in 2018 under her maiden name. The book has received both critical and reader praise. In a starred review, Publishers Weekly said: "Making full use of historical documentation, Callahan has created an incredible portrait of a complex woman."

"It's not supposed to be a technical biography of my mother. It's a novel. And it's a very good one. . . extraordinarily accurate. . . more accurate than most biographical essays that have been written about my mother."

Douglas Gresham, son of Joy Davidman, stepson of C.S. Lewis.

"For a good wife contains so many persons in herself. What was [Joy] not to me? She was my daughter and my mother, my pupil and my teacher, my subject and my sovereign; and always, holding all these in solution, my trusty comrade, friend, shipmate, fellow-soldier. My mistress; but at the same time all that any man friend...has ever been to me...."
